Director Identity Verification – What You Need to Know
From 18 November 2025, all UK company directors and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs) are legally required to verify their identity with Companies House.
This change is part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 and is designed to:
Reduce fraud and false company information.
Improve transparency about who is behind UK companies.
Strengthen trust in the Companies House register.
If you are a director or PSC, you will need to verify your identity within the required timeframe. Without verification, you won’t be able to file documents at Companies House, and your company could face penalties.
How to Complete Your Verification
There are two ways to complete this process:
Do it yourself via GOV.UK One Login (recommended, free, and quick).
Ask an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), such as your accountant, to complete the process for you on your behalf.
